Climbing Roses

Hi, I would like two climbing roses, one for a trellis and one for a wall. Can anyone suggest the hardiest and quickest growing for zone 5?
Thanks

Pole star is a very hardy climbing rose. It's white and can grow up to 6+ feet tall. All roses need support . They do not cling to walls so even tho you want one for a wall it will still have to be supported. Check Lois Holes book on roses. Lots of varietys in there.

The Dawn series roses White Dawn and New Dawn (a very pale pink) have been great here in Cincinnati. Very glossy disease resistant foliage and nice blooms 2-3 times a year in waves. Mine have grown quite quickly and after 6 years are past the second story on my house. Also I work at a nursery and we sell Brite Eyes, which I believe is by the breeders of the Knockout roses; it is quite fragrant and has a pink rimmed petals with gold centers, more compact at about 8 feet tall.

I second the recommendation of New Dawn, and it gets really big! White dawn, however, has been more of a ground cover here. William Baffin is a reasonable choice though more of a very large bush than a climber.

You might ask in the rose forum if you haven't already.

Constance Spry is my hardiest climber here in Chicago z5, although Clair Matin is the "bloomingest". You can't go wrong with either one.

John Cabot explorer rose, you don't say where in Ontario, but explorers are most reliable.

John Davis, John Cabot and William Baffin are all good climbers for those with hardiness concerns. Technically I live in zone 2b USDA, and have had good success with these roses.

I have two William Baffin that are amazing specimens over my 10' arbor. Each is about 16' tall and very filled out. The blooms are single pink and absolutely the most spectacular bloom in June I've ever seen. They are hardy for zone 3 and I never have to worry about any dieback or disease with this plant. Completely carefree and huge. Do not plant this if you want a nice little climber that is tame and easily trained....this is a monster.

Hi, planted the New Dawn with great results.
Now my question is, should I be pruning now and how much do I prune?
Thanks
