Seed planting is a mystery to me!

Are there any seeds (perennial) that can be sowed outdoors directly into the soil; but in the shade. These are to replace Hosta on the North side of the house? My guess is no, tho.................advise please, am ready to get at it. Sure would appreciate some guidance, Jaemy

Bergenia is very easy from seed and grows well in shade.

Ohhh there are several shade tolerant perennials that will self seed/reproduce themselves!

Columbine, Pulmonaria, Primrose, Anemone, Astilbe, Bleeding Heart (the white version is stunning in shadier areas), Bugbane, Heuchera, Ferns, Cranesbill Geranium, Gentian, Lamium, Lily-of-the Valley, Ligularia, Meadowsweet, Monkshood, Solomon's Seal, Virginia Bluebells
