Cracked Ground In Yard?

Posted by starliein NE Indiana Zone 5 (My Page) on

Hi...We're in NE Indiana and our back yard has some areas where the actual ground has cracks in it...as if it were in an arid area like a desert. It is not dry since we're just coming out of our spring rainy season and the yard has actually been extremely wet with our sump pumps working overtime.
Does a certain soil composition contribute to something like this?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

show a photo. I was about to suggest it's dry clay soil but if it's wet, then this is something I've got to see. Do you have it amended with compost and good top soil.
