How close to the Black Walnut and what kind of maple and oak are you looking for?

I have all three and I would say that the BL is the fastest growing. I started them from seed four years ago by wintersowing them. We put them in the ground 3 years ago (they were about 1' then) and they are now about 4'. Marg

The Walnut tree is probably 50-60 feet away (not on our property). I hadn't thought about what kind of maple or oak I just Googled what can be planted there and that is what I found out. I just want something that will grow there. Doesn't need to be real big.

I'd go with an oak. It'll be fast enough.

Heh, unfortunately when you're diagnosing another person's plant problems you rarely think to ask the question "Is there a black walnut growing nearby?"
