Suggestions for filling in space where large elm was cut down

Hi all,

We just had a large dead elm tree cut down because it was in danger of falling onto our house. There's now a huge stumpy space where the tree was, of course, and I want to fill it in with something that will grow quickly and provide privacy.

This tree was a border tree that divided my property from my neighbors, so I'd really like to put something in there that will do well in the sun (it gets sun for most of the day) and will provide a good deal of privacy.

It's been suggested to use leyland cypress but i'm open to other suggestions. Was thinking a nonclumping bamboo perhaps?? The other trees that remain in that border are maple, sycamore, and japanese maple. All rather tall, established trees (probably at least 20-30 yrs old).

Any suggestions welcomed!

Thanks,
