dividng a cardianl flower

| I have a friend who has several large and beautiful cardinal flowers. Some have spread by seed and others have gotten quite large. Are these plants which should be regularly divided? I know that some plants tend to die out in the center if not divided regularly. Does she need to to this with her lobelia? |
