pear tree

i have a 6 ft pear tree with two trunk branchs both branchs have buds on them but haven't opened up yet. one branch is dark green and one is dark purple. tree is on its third year. is this tree dead

No, the tree isn't dead if it has buds. To check for deadwood use a penknife and scrape away some bark. If you can find any green then it's alive. Prune away all dead branches dipping your tools in 9 parts water 1 part bleach between each cut.
