Flower or weed?

I've got a bunch of {{!gwi}} growing in my garden. Are they weeds?

I'd hate to pluck them only to find out later that they were on their way to becoming lovely flowers. ;)

Its ragweed. Get it out before they get too big! They grow long taproots.

When I first started gardening I thought they were some sort of marigolds... little did I know!

Silveradofarmgirl - I did the exact same thing! Nurtured my "marigold" all summer till I finally figured it out. LOL

It seems that each year, I "ID" something in the early spring as a "plant", give it good care, even fertilize it, and it turns out to be a weed! It makes me feel a little sheepish. This, after about 40 years of gardening. You'd think I was past this stage by now... Just goes to show that one thing gardening is good for is keeping us humble, right?

Did the same thing! Planted tall marigolds but one of them looked a little different. I took care of it all summer but now realize its a weed. Do we ever learn? lol
