 o
a newbie's intro

Am I ever glad to have been 'trained' and 'staked' in this particular northern tomato cage.....;o)

I live in an area of NW BC that is zone 3 but seems to allow a fellow to think in zone 4 terms more and more.... the possibilities of 'bustin' out' of one's zonal strait-jacket!

I have been reading some of the posts here and find myself grateful that I have a few Good Earth fellow-stewards to share with....I expect to learn a lot!

I am trying to coax my hops onto a telephone and electrical line..... but they seem to be in a mutiny state of mind.... am I trying to lead them idiotically into a perilous place.... are they trying to tell me that my chosen path for them is nothing but a electro-magnetic nightmare best avoided?

RE: a newbie's intro

Hi, Stash! Your post cracked me up. :) I have seen morning glories trained up the support cable on a telephone pole but I have never see hops (or anything) actually growing along the electric or telephone lines.

Horses can feel the electro-magnetic field from an electric fence (at least mine could)... and as the battery got weaker he would move closer to the fence. He tested it every day until he finally dared touch the fence...and that was it! Soon as he got no shock he busted thru the fence and a-galloping he would go!

If it is really true plants respond to voice and music then it should follow they will know when you are trying to electrocute them! ;) But...who knows...maybe your hops will like sitting on a perpetual vibrator.

btw...as you probably noticed...we are all in zonal denial.

Hey,DaisyLover, thanks for the warm and jovial response.... always nice to be welcomed,eh....

Yes, the darn hops just wanna escalate to the stars and I thought,in my lazy hopes of less tending, could just shunt them off onto a convenient spur line....o:).... ah, such inappropriate machinations are being thwarted..... so in my dubious list of gardening successes I will definitely NOT be a credible guide to rambunctious vines as to just which highway or staircase to the heavens is best!

Yes, a good dose of zone denial is healthy indeed.... I hope to learn a few tricks from this gaggle og gutsy gardeners!
