Overwinter Oriental Lily

I live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, zone 2 and I purchased 2 oriental lilies--mona lisa a month ago and they are blooming beautifully. Has anyone overwintered this plant in my zone as I'm told it may not survive our winter!

I've had them winter (east-central Sask) but after 2 or 3 years fade away. My SIL who lives nearby, on the other hand, has had hers for a number of years and they come back beautifully each year.

There's a forum here on GardenWeb called the Far North forum - mostly covering zones 1-3. Lilies are a favourite topic over there, including many posts about Orientals. Here's a search to start you off

Here is a link that might be useful: Far North Forum search on oriental lily

RE: Overwinter Oriental Lily

I cover my orientals with a bag of leaves after the ground is frozen and hopefully all the mice have found winter homes. They really don't do too well though and tend to get smaller and smaller, year by year. Here in Winnipeg lots of people treat them as annuals.

Good luck with yours. You have chosen really pretty ones.
