Killing Knotweed Roots?

Hi. Ive been reading and readin about japanese knotweed as i recently purchased a home and have a semi-small infestation on the side. Ive used 5% glyphosate solution killing the smaller plants, and have cut stems filling them in attempt to kill it. I've had very little success.

I've excavated much of the area, and found what appears to be the main root of my small system. My question is what can i use to kill this root? I think if i can kill this root, the small branches and small regrowth will be MUCH easier to deal with. I dont know if Triclopyr is the best. If i just cut the root and apply heavily?
