Shredded Paper Mulch Questions

Hi
I recently bought a paper shredder and have been shredding newspapers for mulch in the flower beds. I'm comfortable about using this mulch for the flowers but wonder if it would be OK for the vegetable garden too. Is there lead in the ink? What about flyers etc. that use coloured ink? What about the glossy coloured flyers? Your input would be appreciated.
Thanks

| No lead in the ink that I know of, according to the people who use "lasagne beds" for veg. beds they use the whole sheet as a layer. Sounds like a very eco. friendly way to use paper. P.S. No shiny stuff i.e. magazines envelopes or fax paper! |

Hi Most newspapers have been using safe ink for a while now. I wouldn't use coloured print or the shiny stuff in the veggie garden. I have been using shredded paper for years now and it's great! I put a thin layer of the bought mulch on top in the areas where the public can see. Debbie |
