growing under my oak tree

I'm expanding a garden to bypass directly under a huge and tall oak tree. I'm wondering if I can grow shrubs under it. I was planning to plant a hydrangea (prob. Annabelle) and a few junipers. Will they grow? or do I have to stick to Rhodos, azaleas etc.? It does receive about 6 hours of sun right now.
Thanks

I have some roses growing under a Bur oak and they do fine .Get about 6 hrs of sun a day and I just make sure they get plenty of water.
