Plant ID

A friend texted this photo to me, wondering if I could I. D. this plant for him, but I could not. This was seen in far northern Michigan, near a river, in a shady spot. I asked if that was a blossom or a fruit on it and he said 'um... Both?' I have no idea what he meant by that. Does anyone have any idea what this is?

Received an answer on the plant ID forum... it's a Trillium fruit! I had never seen the fruit before, only the flowers, and the leaves were kind of raggedy so I'd missed the similarity. Thanks!

RE: Plant ID

That is good
I thought it looked like a trillium

was it a white flower on it do you think
I have one a green flower on it

we dug it up years ago when there was an area near us that the road was being widened and they where putting pavement over the wooded area really kind of special I always think

having saved the plant from pavement

It was growing out in the woods, and I imagine it had a white flower, as that's the only color I've seen on the wild Trillium around here. I do have a couple of domestic ones, as well as some wild ones that grow under my cedar trees. The wild ones are white and the domestic ones are kind of a deep maroon / pink color.
