Hardy manzanita

Besides the usual uva-ursi, as anybody ever tried to grow other species of arctostaphylos in Z5 or colder? I'm thinking about those species that grow at high altitude in California, not sure about the name though...I think one is Arctostaphylos patula, wich I saw on a trip to Yosemite.

I haven't tried growing it, though I know that Arctostaphylos patula also grows at Bryce Canyon NP which is in about zone 4. I think that the limiting factor for them would be moisture since many western plants don't do well with too much moisture. They would probably need a really well-drained soil and site.
