best tasting watermelon

After umpteen gigabillion years, I get to retire to the hacienda in Nebraska. Am looking for a watermelon that has proven success in a "warm 4" climate. The ground I have available is former alfalfa field. (Hasn't been for about twenty years.) Any ideas out there?

RE: best tasting watermelon

I just finished my first season growing watermelon. I grew a patch of heirloom Blacktail Mountain from Seed Savers Exchange in my suburban backyard. They were excellent-despite a relatively cool, wet summer for Michigan. Check out the vegetable forum. There are many threads from earlier in the year re: peoples' favorite melon varieties.
