Saving Clematis Plants in Pots

Posted by rodco zone 5 (My Page) on

I just picked up 32 Clematis plants in 1 gallon containers at Lowes. The original price was $34.95 and they were on clearance for 20 cents each. I could not pass up the deal.
I don't have any place to plant them this fall.
How do I winter them over in the pots?
Should I cut them back?

Thanks

RE: Saving Clematis Plants in Pots

Can you dig them into the ground anywhere in the pots? If not put them in a shady place and pour peat moss around them. If mice are a danger put some screen around them or find a way to protect them.

Freezing and thawing is the problem usually.

Good luck.
