Planting

Hi everyone!!! I didn't realize that there was a gardening forum just for the Northern Nevada area.

I have a couple of questions...

How do you determine your zone for planting? I'm in the south part of Reno, close to the Atlantis.

Which vegtables should I be getting ready to plant and when. Things like lettuce, or carrots, things that would be good to juice.

Thanks,
Gary

Howdy! This seems to be one of the slower groups here on Gardenweb, so it's nice to see a new participant. I use the zip-code to Zone finding tool (linked below) to find my zone. I'm down in Vegas and I'm in USDA Zone 8a.

If you use the Sunset Western Gardening books, their "zones" are much more specific (and differently numbered) to each area. Their website has a zone-finder as well, but it isn't working right (it places my Las Vegas zip code somewhere along the US/Canadian border LOL). So you'll have to go by their clickable maps.

Anyways, this last weekend was beautiful and I got a lot of planters planted up (with seed), now it's just a waiting game to see how many things actually sprout and then survive the Spring winds. I'm currently just in an apt, so I have to go the container route for now. Can't wait to get back into a house with a yard! Probably not for a couple years though.

Good Luck, Hope your weekend was great!
