Do you have an idea as to what the Sunset zone for the Carson City Airport might be?

My old Sunset Western Garden Book don't have the details I need for the eastern foothills.

I know they update their zone map fairly frequently, you might try their website. I think the last time I checked they had that area in 2B? I have a similar problem in that I live in Stead and get all the weather from the back side of Peavine, but I get grouped in with the zones for Reno down in the river valley. I usually take the zones, both Sunset and USDA, with a rather large grain of salt because the highly variable terrain in this area leads to highly variable microclimates. You might consider planning for a bit colder and dryer than your official zone. If you have close neighbors they are a good resources as well. And talk to the folks at the local nurseries - they gave me great advice when it came to choosing fruit trees that would be hardy enough.

Its zone 2b but zone 2 is zone 2. I wouldnt worry about the a or b. I'm in zone 1 and I've grown shrubs for zone 2 here. Theres a lot of other factors to consider when planting but I wouldn't split hairs on the zoning.
