Too many lilies

Yes, Virginia, one CAN have too many lilies. I was watering after dark last night in anticipation of today's heat, and the back garden positively reeked of lilies. It was a thick, heavy, sweet fragrance I might have otherwise pronounced heavenly (think Gardenia), but I think that about 8 Orienpets in full bloom in my small garden with no wind in the evening makes for an oppressive scent.

I shoulda thought about that when I planted them, but they are just SO beautiful...

RE: Too many lilies

Lisa,

I love the smell of lillies although we are too harsh here in southern Nevada to grow them well in the landscape but in a bouquet they are wonderful for the eyes and the nose. Smellies are wonderful in the garden, from ours it is the salvias and agastaches that put out the wonderful odors.
