Catalpa tree doesn't flower???

I (finally) identified a tree in my backyard which I believe to be a quite old Indian Bean Tree. We purchased the place 3 years ago and it was built in 1947, so the tree could perhaps be as old as the house? It's not very tall, but has a bit o' girth, and leafs out beautifully. Until cruising the net, I did not know this tree flowers, as mine does not. Nor does it make the bean pod things.
Some uncertain sites have suggested that when the tree ages flower production tapers off.
Anyone know if this is true? What is your experience with with quirky, yet sweet tree?
