Sapsucker problem

They are becoming a serious problem in my garden. They have already killed a weeping giant Sequoia, blue Spanish Pin Fir, and now they're after a Deodara!

They leave the normal giant Sequoias alone, but target the weepers. So far, they have only chosen one Deodara and have left the rest alone. They even did enough damage to a Cynthia rhododendron to weaken the main trunk. It has since sprouted below the damaged area and looks like it will resume normal growth.

Is there a solution for this problem short of buying a pellet gun?

Mike
