shrub 'liguster'?

Just reading a book (Frayn's "Spies") where he talks about a shrub called "liguster" which I have been unable to track down. Does anyone recognize it?

I think this is a privet. The German word for privet is liguster.

Also Ligustrum is the Latin word for privet.
