When does hardy begonia emerge in spring?

I bought some starts of 'Heron's Pirouette' Hardy Begonia or Begonia grandis. I know that they tend to be late to show growth in the spring, but I am hoping that someone who has grown this plant can tell me what that means in our region.

I am thinking of planting them under a camellia that drops flowers until about mid April, so I am walking and raking underneath it until then. Will the begonia be emerging by mid April or does it emerge later than that? I am hoping that it doesn't emerge until late April or May, so I rake away without harming them before that.

BTW, not raking is not an option as this camellia is in a very visible spot, so I do like to clean up after it or it looks terrible.
