Good successor candidates for crocuses in mulched bed

Right now, I have some beautiful swaths of yellow crocuses planted in a mulched bed in a prominent area of my front yard.

But alas, come the end of March, I will soon be bidding farewell to ye crocuses.

I'm looking for worthy successor plants for these areas, which will give me some nice long-lasting color in the late Spring or Summer months. The bed is anchored by plantings of blue oat grass and Mexican feather grass. In summer, the area gets full sun (both morning and evening sun, but not midday sun, due to tree canopy in the back).

I'm open to either bulbs or annuals, but whatever I pick, it needs to stay under about 15-18 inches in height.
