I got mine from Colvos Creek Nursery on Vashon Island in 2003; I don't see it listed in the current online catalog, though. Mine has grown quite slowly. It has lovely butterscotch golden leaves in the fall. No flowers on it yet. I don't know if I have a male or female plant, but both are supposed to have flowers.

Forestfarm is showing L. benzoin, if that holds any interest. Otherwise, I would call some independent garden centers and if none can help then see who was listing it in The Plant Locator - Western Region (2004 Black-Eyed Susans Press) in case any still have it.

I see Lindera fairly often at garden centers I visit so calling some would not necessarily be a fruitless endeavor for you.

There is also always the possibility that anything conspicuous and close to busy routes in the Arboretum - as is the Lindera in the Woodland Garden you are likely to be talking about - has been propagated by volunteers at the Calvert Greenhouse and is for sale there. I am pretty sure I have in fact seen this item there, at some point in the past.

Another worthy lindera acquisition is L. angustifolia with consistent , extremely beautiful Fall leaf color .
If you ever locate a source for Lindera erythrocarpa or Buddleja lindleyana I would appreciate the link .

Lisa, I had the same experience and was so smitten by the lush yellow fall foliage of the Lindera Obtusiloba, I started a mission to find one. I found mine years ago at Wells Medina and one at Colvos Creek Nursery.

I live on Vashon Island now, and have two but have had no luck in propagating them. I don't understand why this exceptional small tree is not more widely available. It is hands-down my favorite.
