Acacia dealbata help

I've got about a 12 foot a. dealbata that for the most part got freeze-dried this winter. Yesterday I did the scratch test on the bottom 2 inches of the trunk & there is clear & unmistakable green live tissue down there. The rest of the tree is dead & even starting to split in places.

My question is, can I just leave it as is & let it do it's own thing or will I need to cut it down to the live part in order to get it to regrow?

Thanks in advance!
