replanting after stump grinding?

plantknitter

I would like to finally remove two kwanzan cherry trees from between ours and the neighbor's driveway and have them stump ground.

They had been/have been hack pruned for over 30 years due to tent caterpillars and just to keep their brown rot and canker sap from falling all over cars in the driveways. Their roots have raised up the driveways and come up in the garden beds far away.

So question is: if they are stump ground, how soon can I replant some nicer trees ( paperbark maple? ) and what do I need to do to prepare the soil? They would need to go back into basically the same exact location. Is that possible?

Thanks for any info.
