Too early to plant tomatoes in pdx?

I know that the general rule of thumb is mid-may as the last frost date. However, with daytime temperatures forecasted between 70-85 degrees and close to or above 50 at night for the next 10 days I was wondering if it might be worth the slight risk of planting my tomato starts now in order to get them in the ground sooner. I do have some plastic to cover them with if it looks like its going to get cold. My thought is that getting them in the ground and out of the pots sooner is best and based on the forecast the conditions are good to do so, am I correct? Thanks.
