I've hiked a few bamboo forests on Maui and Kauai and heard the 'clacking' of the dead canes when the tradewinds pick up.
Burning old dried canes here brought the police a couple of times. My neighbor down the road thought I was shooting a lot of guns. I live in a no shooting area. After the second time I brought him over so he could hear the bamboo exploding in the fire. Each section is airtight and when it's heated it bursts, sounding like a gunshot. The larger the bamboo, the larger the caliber. A pickup load sounds like a fire fight.
A friend from India says a bamboo forest on fire is real loud. I can imagine...

When cured Timber Boo explodes you can feel the concussion on your chest. Burning bamboo is not a kiddie weenie roast.

I used to have a white birch forest in my back yard. Thinking of it now, I suppose they were Himalayan birches. In any case, they made a lovely, rustling sound in the breeze, similar to aspens. I imagine poplars might do it, too, but I would check first.
