Tree ID needed

Hi- I'm trying to help a friend identify one of her trees. It flowers in the spring (sorry, but I don't have the color of the flower or a pic of the bark, but I know the flower is similar to a dogwood flower.) Most interesting, some of the leaves get this pink variegation in spring. It's a small tree. Looking through the dogwoods, there is a Giant Vareigated Dogwood with green centers on the leaves and white/pink margins, but that's the closest I've come to identifying it. Thanks for any assistance!
