So there I was minding my own business, picking today's round of our incredibly happy and productive strawberries - and all of a sudden the berry I was reaching for exploded in horrible icky little hair-like wormy things! I think they were greyish but I didn't stick around to find out, I (independent robust adventurous outdoorsy woman) screamed and ran away. DB ran out to rescue me from whatever I needed rescuing from and was very understanding and supportive when he realized it was a strawberry.

Any ideas what they were, or how to keep them from infesting other strawberries without going back on my "no pesticides" pledge? Location is Shoreline, WA. Thanks in advance.
