It's a little late for this advice, but prime time to seed a lawn is either April/May or September/October.

That said, if you stop watering now, the seeds will certainly die. So resuming water later won't work.

Basic question: How long ago did you seed?

I have Fleur De Lawn -- it's very nice. It takes a LONG time to establish. It needs to be watered at least 2X per day in this heat and dryness. It is very slow to fill in but worth it. Beware of slugs. Slugs ate all the flowers out of mine, but the grass, yarrow and clover are luscious. I've never mowed it. I seeded it Dec05 and have re-seeded some parts. Also switched to their Erosion Control mix which is the same thing sans the flowers (and a lot less expensive!). Mine gets heavily watered all year because growing 300 young trees and the roots are everywhere.

fleur de lawn is super over priced. try basically the same mix from sunmark seeds linked to below. its called 'lawn bloomers' at $16 a pound- as opposed to $32 a pound for fleur de lawn.

i've also used their ecology mix, which still has a lot of flowers, but is much cheaper at $8 a pound.
