--hardneck garlic--when is it ready--

Hi folks, this is the first year that i have ever planted hard neck garlic. I have always just planted soft neck so i can braid it easy. This year i planted both, and last week my soft fell and so i knew it was time to harvest. WILL THE HARD NECK ALSO FALL? How do i know when it is ready? It was planted on the same day as the soft neck, do you think the hard neck is ready to be pulled?thanks for any info--Bob

There is a forum specifically for garlic and other alliums. You will find nearly all you might need to know about garlic there.

Garlics should be harvested way before top falls.
You should've harvested them when they had about 5 green leaves while the stem is standing. When the top falls down, the wraps around the cloves get soft ... and the cloves bust out. Nothing wrong with the garlics , but they will not store well.
