Looking for Tree suggestions

I am looking for suggestions for a tree for the front yard that will be columnar and block the view from our home to across the street. (They are developing the area across the street from us.) If you say arborvitae, I will slap you with juniper branches. I want something that has some character. Suggestions?

The weeping cedar just does not quite look right.

Those grow pretty fast when happy and get big, so unless it is too close to pavement that might fit the bill. Whatever you plant you will have to wait years for it to fill the space.

Yard or parking strip? Any restrictions on parking strip trees in your locale? How much space between the sidewalk and the house?

RE: Looking for Tree suggestions

underused Caolcedrus decurrens is columnar.
