Maybe try 'Montmorency' instead.

Fruit trees, especially all the Prunus species, are high maintenance plants.

If you want to grow a cherry with reasonable success in the NW, select a kind known to have some resistance, then apply dormant sprays every year.

We've had both sour cherry types mentioned above and currently have the Surefire. Both grew/grow like a weed with very minor sap leakage. Both plants were from Raintree. So you may need to break out the dormant sprays.

Pear trees can be a chore, but with regular pruning, several in this neighborhood are reliable.

...then there is always quince!

my property is surrounded by about 8 cherry trees, all wild weedy types. they drop seemingly millions of fruits every year. chickens love them. my dog eats cherry pits out of his paws all day.

however, i can say that year to year their production varies greatly and some occasionally pick up some leaf browning type issues.

i would try planting another cherry in a different spot and see how it does for you.

The wild cherry trees in the coastal Northwest are bitter cherry, Puget cherry and sweet cherry. The first is native here, the third is of foreign origin - and the basis for the orchard sweet cherry - and the second is the essentially fruitless hybrid between the other two.
