Clover

When we bought this house a couple of years ago, half of the back yard (we have a shy half acre) was 8 foot tall blackberries and whatever weeds could survive among them. We had them dug out at great expense, but they are, of course, trying to make a come back. We decided the easiest and least toxic way to keep them under control until we're ready to do something back there was to mow. I'm thinking that maybe we could improve the soil while we're at it by planting (and mowing)clover. Can anyone think of a reason why that wouldn't work? Where does one buy clover seed?
