When to prune blueberries?

I have five blueberry bushes. Four of them are about chest high and usually only one of those produces berries each year. For some reason (maybe last winter's snow or this summer's record heat), all of them had berries this summer.

One of the bushes is very prolific and produces lots of very big berries each year. But it also grows a good six inches a year. I think the last time I pruned it was ten years ago (I didn't know what I was doing, but people assured me I couldn't kill it!).

It has gotten to the point where I need a step ladder to pick the upper half of the bush, and I can't even reach into the middle. This thing needs to be brought back under control!

So, I want to bring it back down to chest or shoulder height, and reduce the diameter.

Any recommendations on when and how to do this would be greatly appreciated!
