Growing Ranunculus in PNW

Hi all:

For the last few years I have been admiring the Ranunculus that the nursery have been offering each spring. So this year I thought I give it a try growing them myself, so I marched off to the local Home Depot and picked up a packet of tubers to plant. Only problem I have is that I have no idea as to when to start them..All information I can find says to plant the tubers now, but also say that the tubers should not 1. freeze and 2. not be water logged..Hah..since this is PNW and water from the heavens is all we are going to get for the next 6 months..I'm a little confused as what to do.

Can someone please advise?
Thanks

It is a mediterranian plant, so it looks like you plant in spring and dig and store over winter if this is the species of Ranunculus you have:

Ask your local experts at Home Depot. Isn't that where you bought them.

Tubers are hardy to 10F/-12 C. Beyond hardiness range treat as annual, planting as soon as the ground can be worked in spring

Thanks all for advise.
Muddydogs: Yes I got them from HomeDepot. I very rarely buy plants/bulbs from there. I prefer Swansons or Molbacks. This was truly a impulse purchase. The 'so called experts' were no help unfortunately.

nothing inherently wrong with buying plants at a big box store. they have interesting plants show up in their inventory now and again. often at great prices.

but advice? perhaps there is an employee at home depot that knows something about anything they sell, i just haven't found one yet.

Home Despot is another giant predatory operation like Mal-Wart and should likewise never be patronized except when they appear to be the only local source.
