Warm weather

| Is anyone else taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather we're getting in the Cincinnati area (and probably a few others)?
For the second weekend in a row I've been outside with no coat on, just a long-sleeved T-shirt, doing some of those clean-up chores I never got around to doing last fall. Last weekend I raked up a lot of leaves (mostly along the fence), shredding them to add as mulch to flower beds and to my compost pile. Well, actually it's one of those Earth Machines. Anyway, today I added some more leaves and "stuff" to the compost and turned it. I also cleaned up a lot of fallen branches and played with our cat, who LOVED being outside. My husband and I also talked about a raised bed we're going to enlarge in one corner. We probably would have had that talk regardless, but it was nice to be able to actually stand out there and discuss how large we want it, the shape, etc. I still need to start my winter sowing, though. D'oh!
What are y'all doing to enjoy this nice weather? |

| Holding off on the winter sowing. My stocks and flax germinated. RATS! I had held off on poppies, alyssum etc that would trigger during these warm spells, but I forgot about the stocks. I'm a little shocked at the flax. On the other hand, I have done some cleanup and am scattering coffee grounds from Starbucks here and there. |

| Yes, I've done a bit of cleanup, too. Just pulling up some old annuals and such and tossing them into the compost. I was going to do quite a bit of my WS this week...but, will have to hold off. I checked the ten day forcast at weather.com. It's going to be in the 40's and 50's for the next ten days. My goodness! When I was a preschool teacher in the 80's...we always had "Beach Day" in January..to "take us away" from the cold Michigan winter. It was always ended up during the warm spell! Furthermore, that same week we would have our Winter Picnic day and the temperature was in the ultimately in the 50's. So, instead of having our hot cocoa and peanut butter sandwiches in the snow (what fun!) we had to sit on the school's step to avoid the the wet muddy mess. Your post made me think of it. Thanks! |

| If it's still warm this weekend, I think I'm going to rent a roto-tiller and dig up the garden at work. Sometime this week I want to expand my beds at home a little bit. Slowly but surely stealing a little more of the landlords lawn.... |
