Vermiculite, & Bulk Compost Locations in Central Kentucky

Just wanted to give a shout-out to the square foot gardeners in Central Kentucky!

The least expensive sources I have found for materials for my SFG:

Fayette Seed
They sell 18LB bags of vermiculite for $18.99. I'd say the bag is somewhere between 3 and 4cuft of mineral (closer to 4)

Con Robinson Bulk Materials
~COMPOST $10 per cubic yard
*Standard 8' bed pick up trucks carry approximately 2 cubic yards
*Small 6' bed pick up trucks carry approximately 1 1/2 cubic yards
I have used both vendors the last couple years and found both are the best bang for the buck in this area. You need a pickup or trailer for Con Robinson. I plan to visit in April to get my load of goodness.

I visited today (March) and got a yard of compost. It took me an hour and half to scoop it all out of the 6' bed in my truck. Con Robinsons piled the compost HIGH! That was more than a yard! After I had emptied my truck I returned and got a yard of mulch (and then emptied that). Needless to say I am very sore and tired now, but the effort is always worth it.

Home Depot is no longer carrying the 3.8cu ft bales of peat moss. Must've been last year's stock (and they sold it out). Tis a shame.. that was a really good price compared to the Miracle Gro 2cuft bags that are like $8 each.
