Forsythia non-bloom in SE MI?

| We live just North of the Ohio boarder (1 mile) and none of the forsythias in our area had blooms this year! They are already beginning to leaf out. The only blooms were at the very bottom of the shrubs (from ground up to about 6-8"). Since this is the case thoroughout our area, I'm wondering if anyone knows what climatic veriable might cause this? Too warm a Spring? Too wet/dry? Harsh Winter?
Thanks all! Happy Spring!

| It was too cold this winter. Where the bottom of the bushes were protected by snow you may have some blooms but otherwise that's it for this year. |

| What a disappointment! I guess I can go ahead and start pruning then... maybe next year will be twice as beautiful! Thanks maotsemom! |

| so very cold winters will keep them from blooming out right. we got a few sporatic flowers on one large clump. can a plant get too old to bloom right? someone told me that cutting it back will make it bloom better the next year. or at least she said it did for hers |
