Hi! I just wanted to introduce myself. I've been lurking and reading and learning, but I wanted to get into the mix. I live in Evansville, but I'm from Louisville and am there visiting family all the time. We bought our first house 2 years ago in June and this year I have been working like crazy to make gardens in my front yard. My mom and her garden friends have been very generous, supplying me with hostas, coreopsis, iris, and daylilies to get me started. Now I'm planting and clearing and hoping everything goes as planned!
Does anyone have any great ideas for dandelions? We tilled our entire front yard to create gardens and start from stratch with our lawn because it was in such terrible shape. After that I went through and thought I pulled all remnants of dandelions while I was adding compost and raking the dirt out. Then I planted flowers and bulbs and mulched everything. But I still have dandelions coming up through the mulch every day! Am I going to just have to embrace them? If you guys have any more ideas they will be welcome! Thanks! |

| Hello and Welcome! it sounds like you have a great start on your gardens- good job! my 'pass me down' plants are some of my favorites in my garden- I don't know of any solutions to the dandelion 'explosion' -Most everyone I know has them-just have to keep digging them up -hopefully before they seed and start blowing around to make more! *sigh* I want to invite you to visit the cottage garden and winter sowing forums- both are very busy forums, with lots of beautiful pictures thrown in for good measure! I winter sow all my seeds (this is my 5th year)-I never thought I could grow from seed until I found winter sowing! Check out the FAQ there, and see what all the fun is about! I am in Louisville- close to the airport and fairgrounds-Check the other posts here for details of our plant exchange in June! Would love for you to attend- if you don't have plants to trade, no problem (at least for me!) I am bringing lots more than I want to take home! :)) I have lots of seeds too- email me if you would like to try some- so glad to have you here- hope to see you in June best wishes and Happy Spring! | Hi everyone! I'd like to introduce myself to you all! I live and garden in Evansville and especially enjoy cottage gardening. I am currently very interested in selling perennials (I have also checked out the market forum), as well as in propagating perennials, shrubs and herbs, and in developing a large shade garden. I have spent a few days looking through the various forums here and I think this will be a great way to share ideas and meet others! I look forward to being a part of this forum and in corresponding with you all! |
