whooley aphid

i think my rose bushes have been attacked by them. (i keep noticing little white fluffs and the stems and i noticed it was actually a bug)any ideas on really getting rid fo them. my husband sprayed the roses last week and it was suppose to kill aphids but it doesnt seem to be getting rid of them. any other ideas.

I had these things on my apple trees in the spring. The old guy at the local seed company recommended malathion pesticide. It was 50% core ingredient in the poison and seemed to do the trick. The undersides of the branches of the trees look crusty and rough where the woolies were infested, but they seem to have scarred-up some. I should spray again to make sure they are gone.
