A friend wants to grow a Muscadine grape in central KY. I know this is too far north BUT maybe the plant didn't read the book. Has anyone out there ever had luck growing a muscadine in KY or the Ohio River Valley?

RE: grapes

It's my first time growing grapes. I planted these last March/April. They are Niagara variety grapes. I'm not sure how they differ from the variety you mention. I'm in Winchester, KY. The growth is just now starting to 'vine-out'. I attached some string from the stockade fence yesterday for these vines to train up. I'm not sure I will keep the string there permanently. Works for now til I decide to put some trellis against the existing fence or just let them decide for themselves on where to grow.
