Unknown flower???

Posted by diggerz z5 OH (My Page) on Sun, Aug 7, 05 at 22:14
A friend of mine planted flowers from a container bought at Lowes. Alas, she disposed of the container so I don't have a chance of knowing this flower. The plant is about two to three feet tall, light pink five petal flowers about three inches across with leaves that look like maple tree leaves. I have digital photos if needed. Zone 5 North East Central Ohio. Thanks.

Can you email the pics? I'm stumped. It's the maple leaf thing that gets me.

diggerz,Abutilon is a annual flowering maple. If that's an Abutilon then that's what it's called. My friend Juanita grows and sell them and they come in different colors and different leaf patterns. Some leaf patterns have yellow spots on them and some are plain like the photo shows.I don't know if that helps or not,But I;m pretty sure were on the right track.BTW That was a very beautiful plant and photo!

I don't think it's actually a maple, like the tree; it's just that the leaves are similar. Abutilon is in the same family as mallows. I think it's a fairly old plant, one of those Victorian parlour plants. I see them in the garden centers more and more, but I don't think I've ever seen one in a real-garden setting. They are pretty, aren't that? Diggerz, are we on the right track?
