It's always a good idea to wrap the fountain up for the winter. When we start getting rain (hopefully soon!) or snow the moisture can seep into fine cracks in the concrete. When the freezing and thawing starts it will widen the cracks until you get major breakage.

Most people wrap them with plastic tarps and tie them up with twine. Not the best look but it will save your fountain.

I do the same as ohiogdnt but first I stack some tall plastic pots in the center. This will make the tarp come to a peak and let the rain and snow, slide off better.
Even with them cover, sometimes water gets in. To be on the safe side, I give them a good coating of Thompson's Water Seal.
As much as they cost, you would think, they would last forever! I have a few, that were made from a poor concrete mixture and they crumbled, in a few years. :-(
Now I take extra measures to insure they last!

We wrap ours in a thick blancket. Usually one that needs discarded. LOL Then we wrap in heavy plastic. If moisture gets in the blanket will absorb & couse minimal damage to the fountain. We hope! This has worked for 5 yrs. Last spring we did find a few cracks that we had to repair. They were small & coused no problem. Hope this helps.
