Geeeez! I'm so sorry to hear about your shade bed! I didn't hear any stories on the news about a woman freaking out over a gardening mishap, so I am glad you're taking this so calmly.

I don't know about the phone company, but once when a chimney sweep company guy stepped on a few of my plants, they offered to send me a check to cover the damages and asked what I thought the plants were worth. Knowing they weren't worth more than a few dollars, I told the girl I really appreciated the offer and it restored my opinion about their company and the gesture alone was enough.

Do you have any pictures of the bed?

I would be surprised if most of the stuff didn't survive. It's worth a try - if you can find a time when it's daylight out and not raining - or blowing so hard you can hardly stand up!

Ditto on the weather! Wow!

Hostas are tough little buggers - remember, you just stick a shovel in them to divide, so some might still be there intact.

I'm going to be dividing hostas and will have extra toads this spring. Let us know what happened, and I'll bet we can put together a quick fix.

If you recall, I had the city destroy my front flower beds too. It's so hard to see that work down the tubes. It sets you back a year, but it is fixable.

So sorry for your loss. That's crummy.

I remember when your front beds got totalled...it's quite a shock to come home and see it, eh?

I replanted everything last night (by flashlight, so we'll see) and am keeping my fingers crossed.
