I probably would go ahead and plant them and water them in, but not do any pruning until after they begin to leaf out in the spring.

I hope that HD had been keeping them inside the building because if they were outside when the temperatures and wind chills were at their lowest point in recent weeks, they might not be viable. Remember that when plants are in above-ground containers, the roots lack the insulation they'd have if they were planted in the ground, so your Black Diamond Crape Myrtles, technically, were growing in zone 6 this winter if HD had them outdoors.

If you decide to keep them in the greenhouse with your citrus trees, they ought to leaf out and begin to grow, but I am not sure if that would be ideal at this time of the year. If they were very happy, they could grow fast and take up too much space in the greenhouse

I love my Black Diamonds but they are out in the back garden where the temperature has dipped down to at least 8 degrees this winter.They might have suffered some winter dieback, though I expect they have survived so far. I hope the same is true for yours.

Thanks dawn. I doubt they protectec them so I have my fingers crossed. I did do a scratch test and the cambim is still green so there should be a good chance. I was so angry at them when I was there. They had left some big pindo and sago palms out and they were all fried.
