Here's the scoop on this. I know that there will be another day long seminar on February 23. But at the moment, I cannot remember the topics which will be addressed. The Cherokee County Food Policy Council is sponsoring these seminars. There is no charge to attend. But donations would be appreciated to help with the cost of materials.

The Cherokee County Food Policy Council invites the public to attend the first in a series of "Growing Our Own" educational workshops, beginning with the Home Gardener on February 2, Saturday, at the N.S.U. Redbud Room, located on the 3rd floor in the University Center. The free workshop will begin at 10:00 am and run until 5:00 pm with a break for lunch on your own. Clear Creek Seed company will join us with a display table of their seed line.
This first workshop will be focused primarily for the home gardener, but will cover a range of topics of interest to beginners and seasoned growers and producers alike. Topics covered will include Nutrition and Lifestyle with Michelle Moulton, a Registered Dietician from Reasors, Inc. and Seed Saving from George McLaughlin, a life-long Seed Saver and Specialist in Self Sufficiency. We will break from 12:00-1:30pm for lunch on your own, and reconvene to hear an update on the Food Policy Councils activities and how you can become involved and then we will cover Cooking from your Garden, with Rita Bergman, a local Engineer and Dietician, Drought, Pest and Weed Options from Coleen Thornton, a producer with Heaven Sent Food and Fiber company and closing with Composting by Sand Mueller, a life-long horticulturist and greenhouse guru.
The mission of the Cherokee County Food Policy Council is to promote the supply and benefits of a healthy, robust, local food system". The two primary goals of the Cherokee County Food Policy Council are to understand and support the development of the five sectors of the food system (production, processing, distribution, consumption and composting/recycling; And to Support the Creation of a Cherokee County and Regional Food Hub in Northeast Oklahoma.
As they say, "Know your farmer, know your food", so come on out and meet other growers and producers. Door prizes will be provided!
